Food and Beverage Industry Jobs Account for 15.88% of Overall Job Growth in September
Overall Unemployment Rate Dips to 7.8%

10/06/2012 –The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) today released its monthly report on nonfarm payroll. According to the BLS, which releases its findings monthly, the unemployment rate was 7.8% in September, a slight decrease from August’s unemployment numbers, but importantly dipping below 8% for the country. The total nonfarm payroll edged up by 114,000 in August. While the number of unemployed persons decreased in September by 456,000, it still leaves 12.5 million unemployed in the U.S.
Importantly, the food and beverage industry was an important driver of jobs in September, accounting for 15.88% of the job growth. Within the industry, all sub-segments saw job-gains in their payroll including food manufacturers, grocery stores, restaurants and food service providers.
